LB 718 on Final Reading

February 19, 2026

Good news! LB718, the Society’s Alternative Pathways bill, is now on Final Reading. Once the Legislature passes a bill on Final Reading, it goes to the Governor for consideration. The governor has five days, excluding Sundays, to decide what to do with a bill. If the governor signs the bill (or simply declines to act on it), the bill becomes a state law three calendar months after the Legislature adjourns. The Legislature is scheduled to adjourn April 17, but adjournment could occur before or sometimes after that date. If everything goes as planned, the law will go into effect on approximately July 17, 2026! We will know the exact date once the Legislature adjourns for the year (assuming the Governor signs the bill). Thanks to Society Chairman Jodi Eckhout, Woods & Durham Chartered, along with State Board member Drew Blossom, retired KPMG, for testifying in support of the bill!

We will touch base next week regarding the 17 additional bills the Society has taken action on. This week, we’ve been focused on several taxation bills before the Revenue Committee. Thanks to Public Policy Committee Vice Chairman Stacy Watson, Lutz, for delivering the testimony on 5 bills this week!
