Cynthia Cooper exposed corporate misconduct in the infamous WorldCom scandal, by informing the board that the company had covered up $3.8 billion in losses. The scandal paved the way for the enactment of the SOX corporate reform law. In recognition of her whistleblowing, Cooper (along with Sherron Watkins and Coleen Rowley) was among those named Time Persons of the Year in 2002.
